we made the paper! … sort of. #believeinsherlock
Holy shit look holy shit this was in the stranger
So. I have a friend living in London, and she has friends a few houses down from 221B Baker Street, so she’s in the area visiting a few times a week. I know how that sounds, friend of a friend of a friend, but it’s true. And you know who lives in 221B, those blogger detective people that became the biggest meme in ever. Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. Or lived, I guess I should say. You all read the papers, you know it turned out to be a fraud and a suicide after it got revealed (that journalist probably needs a really good therapist now). Anyway, my friend mentioned the door had been getting some love from fans (people left deerstalkers there, a replica skull - hopefully a replica! - that sort of thing, a big winged graffito opposite the house saying IOU), but since the story of Sherlock Holmes’ suicide made headlines, things have been going a bit crazy and she’s kept an eye on it. I’ll just post the pics she emailed and the notes that she sent along. There are 10 total so far, and I’m sure she’ll be in touch - I’ll post her stuff again if people are interested in this one.
18 June: I walked past to visit Grey and Indy. It was just two days after everything went down (no pun intended, I’m not that horrible!) so I was a bit nervous just walking down that road! No press, luckily, so I managed to sneak a pic. It was all very hush-hush and my hands were shaking a bit, I mean, how do you explain you’re loitering on someone else’s doorstep taking pics and probably not in a dead angle for CCTV, so the pic is a bit blurry, but anyway. It’s proof that I was there. It’s a nice door if nothing else.
19 June: I forgot my notebook at Grey’s (comparing fic notes! I’m starting to like my OFC!), so in the area again to pick it up. Someone’s been at the door in the last 24 hours. I nearly missed it, but they scratched “I BELIEVE IN SHERLOCK” into the paint. I don’t like vandalism, but it’s sort of sweet, even if I feel sorry for the poor bloke living up there, and the little old lady who owns the house, after all she’s the one who has to get it fixed.
21 June: In the area again. It’s a rough stretch for both of them, so I wanted to pop in and see how they were. Went past 221B, of course. Someone did a paint job over the scratching, it’s looking pretty sloppy, but eh.
26 June : You asked how I managed to take pics from the same angle all the time - there’s a crack in the pavement to stand on for that, and the rest, well, Photoshop; I match the pics up and crop them. Anyway, whoever left the scratches probably wasn’t happy with them being painted over, so they went for the next best thing and graffitied teh same phrase onto the door in big and yellow. I BELIEVE IN SHERLOCK. The paint is dry, I checked, so it must have been there for a few days, and they haven’t removed it yet. There’s the start of something else underneath. It’s not in the picture, I figured it wasn’t too important since it was unfinished. Just MORIAR, which I guess should have been something about the role Richard Brook played. He’s vanished, did I mention that, by the way? Like a ghost. There’s nothing at all in the papers, but I can’t really blame him.
30 June: Not much of a change, but it looks like that movement or whatever it is is picking up momentum. I’ve seen a few graffiti in other places. Believe in Sherlock, Moriarty is real, basically the complete turnaround of what the media is saying. There’s lots of online places devoted to it, #ibelieveinsherlock was trending on twitter twice when I checked, and my tumblr dash is exploding with this stuff. Maybe I should post the pics, but I don’t really want the attention or have to tell everyone that I’m not a stalker! People also keep going to 221B, there’s a few stickers now, one of them made me laugh - there’s a sheep on the street number with the slogan inside - people are memesheep! - another saying the same thing below but without sheep, and one just for shits and giggles, I think it’s supposed to be a dead rabbit. Oh, yeah, and you can see the graffiti’s still there. Removing it might be too much of a bother if people just keep coming there.
1 July: Some of the stickers are gone. The pic is blurry again (I headed past on the way to see Indy, Grey is busy with school, forgot to snap one, so only did that on my way home and it was getting dark, sorry about the quality). I’m sad the memesheep is gone, but the post-it next to it made me laugh. It says “Sorry! - JW” (John Watson?!) and then in smaller script that the sheep was blocking the streeet number. They’ve left the rest. I guess they kind of like it. I mean… I guess they were friends. I’d like people to believe my friends were innocent if something like this happened to them, too. I said before, that kind of loyalty is sweet.
3 July: Okay, I went by just to see the door today (what does that even sound like?!). It’s probably turning into a habit (and I won’t be surprised if Scotland Yard arrests me for some connection to the case. They say that killers go back to where they killed, don’t they?). There have been rumors and some people launching appeals to the cases that Sherlock Holmes solved, too. That horrible slimy house-boy of Connie Prince’s (I always felt like I was watching a sexier version of Gollum when he came on screen!), for example. And either way, Scotland Yard actually was there today, at least there were two cars parked outside 221B, though I suppose that’s to do with the vandalism, not me. You can see the pic - not very well, I guess it’s already been scrubbed at. I tried to enhance it a bit in Photoship, but it didn’t turn out that well. Anyway, the graffiti is scrawled over with marker, and someone drew a gun (!!!) on the door pointing up to Watson’s flat. What the everloving fuck?! It also says RICHARD BROOK WAS REAL ♥ immediately above it. It looks like a man’s handwriting. Someone thinks they’re they’re one of the the Great Game snipers, I guess, but it’s still creepy as hell. I hope nothing happens to the old lady (Mrs. Hudson) and John Watson, and I might be giving the door a wide berth for a while. I don’t fancy having any bullet holes in me.
9 July: Grey and Indy showed up today, we ended up fangirling over all sorts of things - The Hobbit movie is being filmed, and unf, Benedict C. as Smaug! I know I’ll end up crushing on the damn dragon just for his voice. Not so sure about the guy they found to play Bilbo, he looks like a hedgehog (did the casting director misread Hobbit?) and he’s been in everything already - HHGttG, that dumb Detective show, etc. If they make him take a towel, I’ll scream. But anyway, the door. Walked Grey and Indy back from the tube, so of course came past it and — guess what, nothing. It’s been painted over completely, it even still smelled of paint although everything’s dried already. The green’s not quite the same, which is a pity; I liked the old shade, and everything’s been cleaned, down to the stones, and it’s just boring now. Either they haven’t had any fanmail after repainting, or they’re taking it down as soon as they see. I’ll keep an eye on it just in case.
9 July, eta: On my own back to the tube, someone must have been at it in those 20 minutes I was upstairs at G&I’s! - four stickers and a chewing gum. I BELIEVE IN SHERLOCK HOLMES and if you turn them around, MORIARTY WAS REAL. Huh. Will come back tomorrow to see if anything’s changed.
10 July: They’re taking stuff down, but there’s lots of interested traffic going past either way judging by the missing paper strips. Funny I never spotted anyone else before today, but I met a bloke (kind of cute) also looking at the Moriarty poster someone put up last night (it got a bit wet, and since last time it rained was around 9-ish last night it had to be before; I remember because did an umbrella battle with Jen and Vicky while we were out - don’t judge, we also sat on the floor and played spin the bottle after getting home from the pub - no more Jagerbombs for me!). He says his name is Sebastian. Did I mention he was kind of cute? He also was the one who put the pink NO post-it back up from where it’d been on the floor crumpled up and told me he actually believed that Moriarty had been Holmes’ invention in order to not be bored and that the bloke really was an actor. Huh. In conclusion, cute but something of a nutjob (or does that make me one for believing the other story?) - he can go clubbing with his friend Jim, I’ll be here keeping an eye on that door.

#believeinsherlock hits Malaysia!
Today, I did my part (with the help of my loyal cousin) for the #BelieveInSherlock / #MoriartyWasReal movement. We managed to post up 30 of these flyers. In case anyone’s wondering, this is in Bandar Baru Bangi Malaysia. Sherlock BBC is very much global ;)
oh bravo!!

Yesterday’s mission was a success! I, bigbookofeverything, tylgrey, and a faction of our college’s Doctor Who Club put up Believe in Sherlock and Moriarty was Real posters around campus, but this was our main focus. This is Pearlstone Atrium, home to the post office, mailboxes, bookstore, gatherings, and a dining hall. Almost every student goes through or past here. So we decided to plaster every available surface we could (along with the innocent white board below) with Believe in Sherlock Posters. Because the message must get out.
#believeinsherlock printables in portuguese for anyone who would like some!
Final version of the cards I’ll stick on the Sherlock Holmes books of the school library, changed from A6 to 3x2 inch cards which will fit all books I can think of.
If memory serves the school library here has a copy of A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of Four, The Hound of The Baskervilles and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes so that’ll be four books for four cards.
But just in case there’s another Conan Doyle book lurking somewhere, I’ll have this one ready:
The text on the cards is Portuguese for: “The Hero of Reichenbach is not a fabrication”, “John Watson reported the truth of/about the facts”, “Jim Moriarty was the only one that lied”, “Richard Brooke was not an actor” and this last one is silly and says “Sherlock Holmes had a beautiful face”.

Moriarty has a bistro/wine bar? Well then… thats interesting #moriartywasreal
